Chapter 39
“I should get to work on the resort,” he says, looking at me. “The woman who hired me is a tyrant.”
“I think ‘ruthless boss’ fits better.”
“Hey!” I protest. “I’m not—yet.”
“But you’re on the right track,” Cass says, patting my hand maternally.
Marcus laughs at our nonsense, kisses me deeply, and heads down to sit in front of his screens.
“I like him,” Cass says as soon as we’re alone.
I smile.
“Yeah. Me too.” I take a breath, prop my feet on the sofa, and look out at the marina. “I told him, Cass. I told him what happened with Bob.”
“I’m so glad, Gabriela.”
My stomach dips.
“I told him everything. I mean, even more than I told you.”
She frowns, and for a second I think she’s angry. I wouldn’t blame her; I feel guilty.
“Oh, honey—did you think I didn’t know?”
I blink, puzzled.
“Wait. You knew?”
“That you hadn’t told me everything? It was obvious.”
“You knew?”
“Of course. And I’m glad
