Then, the realization kicked in. I pushed Lyle backward to break the kiss. I succeeded, and I ran out of his office.
Bad, bad, bad, bad Ashlene. What was I thinking when I was there?
Of course, Lyle would try to kiss me again. He enjoyed the game. I didn’t even believe he loved me. What I knew was that he enjoyed this chase… and I was giving it to him. I was even helping him with this, which was entirely not how it should be.
I flagged a cab and got in. I had no idea if Lyle followed me or even cared to get out of his office to see where I went.
As if to answer my doubts, my phone rang. Speaking of the devil, he called. I rejected it. He was basically the last person I wanted to see or contact now. I couldn’t just deal with him.
