Chapter 7. The New Assistant

Seth heard about what happened, and I, conscious of another possibility of receiving an earful from the head of the family, stayed in our room to keep busy with stuff. I knew I couldn’t just stay in the house all day. Ash might be back to her old comfortable life, but I wasn’t. I still needed to get things done. With my old laptop in front of me, I updated my resume. I wouldn’t offer the Ridleys some more things to throw at me, like my unemployment.
A knock on the door made me pause and stand up.
“Who is it?”
I knew it wasn’t Ashlene. She would open the door without knocking if that was her.
“Mr. Dylan?”
Oh.
I opened the door and got welcomed by one of the uniformed help’s smiles.
“Good evening, sir. Miss Ashlene sent this for you.”
