Chapter 89. Empty

Dad, Anton, and I sat at the dinner table. Per usual, they talk about their day’s work and everything they are to look forward to. I was sitting across them with my food barely touched. On my right hand was a fork, and I was cutting the asparagus stems into smaller pieces. I don’t know; I felt like I didn’t have the appetite to eat at all.
My brother noticed.
“You’re not ten, Ash. Stop playing with your food,” he said, and I met his eyes.
“Did you scare Dylan?” I answered, putting my fork down. I didn’t blink as I observed his eyes. There was no hint of guilt on them.
He shrugged.
“It’s not my fault that he’s easily scared if ever I did that.”
I shook my head slowly.
“What? You’re the one who would annul him. Not me.”
“You could’ve given him days to adjust to the situation. He didn’t need to leave right away.”
