Max’s POV

“Shit.”

I cursed involuntarily as my head was pounding like there was a party going on inside, reminding me just how much I’d drunk the previous night.

I rolled onto my side and groaned as the light from the window shone on my face. Pushing through the headache, I reached for my phone on the nightstand and squinted my eyes to read the screen.

1 new message from Aaliyah.

I laid back on my back and opened the message. ‘I will be gone for a week for a business trip.’

She could be gone for a month and I wouldn’t care. I sat up on the bed and went to my recent calls to contact my assistant but my eyes caught an unexpected contact at the top of my call log.

I’d called her the night before and she’d answered.
