Chapter 58. She’s Mine

Max’s POV

I came to the hospital as the dawn was just starting to stir, the golden sun casting on the hospital name at the entrance. There was a nurse waiting behind the reception desk, a tired smile creasing on her face as I approached her.

“I’m here for Sophie, I’m her uncle, Max Anderson.”

She checked the computer in front of her before she replied, “She has been moved to the VIP ward per your request. Room 109.”

“Thank you very much.” I forced a smile.

With a bouquet of roses and a basket of toys and cookies in my hands, I dragged myself down the hall, step by step. The weight of it all: Sophie and Mason’s accident, Ava’s brand scandal, settling on my shoulders.

I leaned on the door to Sophie’s room and hesitated, wouldn’t enter. The image of her being unconscious and unable to laugh, and throw tantrums bothered me and it didn’t help that it was all because of me.
