Harper strode into the penthouse suite just after midnight, tension, and triumph coiled tight around her spine. The Compliance Initiative’s public launch had landed flawlessly. Media outlets called it “unprecedented.” Investors whispered “heir.” But beneath the shimmer, danger slithered under the floorboards—no clean victory stays clean.
Knox was already inside. Lights low. City glow washing through the floor-to-ceiling windows. His jacket draped over a chair; sleeves rolled, wrists braced on the marble counter. He didn’t greet her—just turned, watching her like a man bracing for impact.
“Who fought?” he asked softly.
