Chapter 40
In the thirty years of his life, Kenzo had felt fear once. When his father came home red-faced. His gait was unsteady. And his voice was frighteningly booming. When he called his mother, who was ill at the time. With a fever. Kenzo repeatedly blocked the path of his father, who was still shouting angrily.
"Laras!!!" he shouted again. "Get out of my way, you useless child!" His father kicked him hard enough, but Kenzo kept trying to get out of the way.
"No, Dad. Mommy is resting. She's hot, Dad," Kenzo said again, but again the kick was aimed at his stomach. It hurt, but Kenzo ignored it. He had to protect his mother because he knew what his father would do.
"Yes, dear? I just woke up." His mother appeared at the end of the corridor that led to his room. And then the horror happened. Right in front of Kenzo's eyes, everything became clear. Kenzo could only squeal, plead, and cry at how lightly Alef Walker's hand
