Darius’s POV

I sped out of the Valentines’ ranch with rage. My hands gripped the steering wheel so hard that I could almost feel it crack.

There had been a good tip about the Valentine clan funding a rebel group. There wasn’t much to doubt, as the Valentines had been a long-standing rival to the Salvatores. Usually, I wouldn’t care about clan rivals, but if I were to become clan elder, their game might interfere with my agenda.

Coming to Fye was an attempt to see if I could investigate things myself. But there was no way any elite in the Republic could get into Fye without the Valentines knowing. The purpose of my visit would have been an easy guess.

I brought the human assassin along partly because I didn’t want to leave her in the castle, especially after the last time I saw her with Nickolas, and partly because the Valentines had been rumored to keep human lovers.
