Chapter 8. The Reason

Nolan’s POV

I walked back to my office, unable to believe Evelyn was back; so many questions swirled in my mind.

I could not blame her for hating me. After all, I had taken another mate, knowing full well that Evelyn would be heartbroken by my choice.

Back then, I wanted to protect Evelyn. Mystic River would have been at a higher risk of attacks if Silverline knew my fated mate was an omega.

I feared she would not be strong enough to lead the pack alongside me.

Naomi was the daughter of a beta; she was strong and beautiful and would make a great Luna, but it didn’t work out that way in the end.

When I realised Evelyn was gone, it was too late to find her. She was already goodness knows where.

I hated myself every day for driving Evelyn away. Her friends and family were shocked when it was discovered that she had disappeared without a goodbye.

I wished I had not had to take another mate, but there had been no other way forward.
