Sofia's POV

We were silent for a little while. I saw him clenching his jaw. His skull was covered with so many veins it looked as though they might burst. He took deeper breaths, but his piercing stare never left me.

“The truth is painful, isn’t it? It is unavoidable, though. You came to me because you realized you couldn’t live on your own. Is it not? Why is accepting that so difficult for you?”
