Chapter 78. Are the Police Outside?
Avery’s POV
My eyes fly open, and I am greeted by the ceiling, an expanse of white with carvings designed on it.
A voice sounds across the room. “I see you are up.”
I glanced at the source, and it’s the woman from earlier who was at the door. I fight the urge to glare at her, if only she had not been there.
“What would you have done?” The voice in my head asked, and I couldn’t help but agree with it for the first time. What could I do against Dimitri’s people, who were armed and skilled in combat? The feeling of helplessness only intensifies as the woman struts to the bed and stands in front of me with her hands crossed as she glares at me.
“I wonder what the boss finds in you. Do you know he sent my colleague to the red district just because she sent you unconscious? Though I bet that hoe would mind.”
