My eyes fly open, and I am greeted by the ceiling, an expanse of white with carvings designed on it.

A voice sounds across the room. “I see you are up.”

I glanced at the source, and it’s the woman from earlier who was at the door. I fight the urge to glare at her, if only she had not been there.

“What would you have done?” The voice in my head asked, and I couldn’t help but agree with it for the first time. What could I do against Dimitri’s people, who were armed and skilled in combat?
