Before I could even process Darren’s accusation, Adrian moved.

His whole body tensed, his muscles coiled, his fists tightening like he was ready to beat Darren into the ground again. He took one step toward him…

I threw my arms around his torso from behind, pressing myself against him, my hands clutching at his hoodie. “No,” I pleaded, my voice urgent. “No, Adrian, stop. Please.”

He was still rigid, still shaking, but I felt him hesitate.
