By the time I got home, I was feeling much better. Better enough to put on a brave face and assure Kaylee that I was fine, that she didn’t need to fuss over me. She had been relieved, and I had been too, especially since her mom had come to visit.
What I hadn’t expected was for Damon to still be there.
Apparently, he had stayed over with Kaylee until her mom arrived and then came in regularly to check in afterward, something that made me raise a brow because Kaylee was trying and failing to act like it was no big deal. I didn’t question it, because I had no right to; not when I was also dealing with the small problem of still being in a complicated situation with my ex from high school.
So, really, I wasn’t one to judge.
Mark clapped his hands together, snapping me out of my thoughts. “Fine. If you’re so eager to work, you can join us for the meeting with Adrian.”
I was already shaking my head before he finish
