My face burned as embarrassment crawled up my neck. Why did she have to ask about Adrian’s intentions like we were discussing wedding venues instead of just dating?
“Mom, seriously…” I groaned, sinking a little lower in my seat, but of course, she just smiled, completely unfazed.
But Adrian nodded almost immediately. “Yes.” His voice was firm. Certain.
My chest tightened.
He met my mum’s gaze, steady and unwavering. “When I came to Portland, I wasn’t expecting to meet anyone. I just wanted to finish the semester and go back to New York. To what was waiting for me.”
He swallowed, his fingers flexing slightly against the table. “But then I met Amelia. And everything changed.” A breath. “I love her. And I’m honored to meet the woman who raised her.”
