Chapter 6

Odette

Odette woke up and stirred during the night. She couldn’t move her arms and legs and couldn’t speak or see. She panicked briefly, then remembered the events of the last day. First, she remembered being looked after by Jake, then scolded by Clint and Sam. Then, she remembered the older brothers making her up a bed and tying her to it. It was an expensive bed and much more comfortable and luxurious than the one she had at home, but it didn’t take away from the fact that she was the Beauforts’ prisoner. She fought back the tears as she realized her predicament. The brothers were unmovable, cold, and steadfast in their belief that she couldn’t make up her debt to them. Just how much had she lost for them? It must be beyond her comprehension.
