Chapter 40. Matteo Returns Home

Amelia rushed to open the door, expecting Matteo at last. She had been restless after receiving a call from Freddie that Matteo had been found and was on his way home. However, as she opened the door, she staggered at the sight of him injured and haggard, almost on the brink of unconsciousness.

“Matteo? What happened to you?” She wrapped her arm around him and helped him inside.

“Hey, I’m fine, cara,” he murmured, wincing in pain when her hand brushed against his wounds.

“Mr. Ricci, we will soon update you on the raid. We’ll surely find your car and return it to you.” Matteo thanked the officer and shook hands with him gratefully. After the officer left, Amelia gently led him to his bedroom.

“Didn’t you sleep?” Matteo watched her angelic face close to his and felt glad that he was alive and with her.

“How could I? Seth, Freddie, and I searched for you everywhere before going to the police. Ever since we had been waiting for some update on you.
