Chapter 48. Going to Sicily to Face the Don

“Left? Who has left? Emilia?” he stammered with disbelief. How could she leave without informing him?

“Yes, she left the keys for you. She took her luggage too.” Matteo nodded and, taking the keys, walked towards the elevator in a dazed state. He couldn’t believe his Emilia could leave him. She would definitely return. He took out his phone and called her, but her phone was switched off.

He sent a message to her.

Come back, Emilia!

Maybe she would come back to him after seeing the message. He trudged towards his apartment and unlocked the door. For the next five hours, Matteo couldn’t concentrate on anything. Amelia still hadn’t switched on her phone. It was past midnight and finally, realization dawned on him.
