Chapter 48
[Somewhere in the desert]
“I wonder where Gretel vanished off to,” Lily said, curled up beside the fire they had made. The desert night was cold and unbearable for her. Noticing this, Emmanuel pulled up a blanket and spread it over her.
“Thanks,” she said, wrapping herself in the blanket and sighing.
Emmanuel sat down beside her, rubbing his palms together to warm them up.
“Come on, we could share,” Lily said, opening up the blanket for Emmanuel to crawl in. He did, and they both wrapped it around themselves.
“I don’t know, maybe she’s finally reunited with Delilah, or maybe she’s gone forever. She’s kind of the one to blame for our current predicament, though,” he finally replied, turning his gaze to her.
Surprised by his answer, she turned to look at him. “You think so?”
