Chapter 18. Happiness or a Parent’s Happiness?

Genevieve’s POV

It was a Saturday morning and I had just finished my chores. I planned on informing Mum about my new job before starting my shift at noon. I hadn’t informed her all this while because I was scared of what her reaction might be which was why I kept on postponing it till it got to today. I knew I couldn’t hold off any longer. I glanced at her for the tenth time or more. I had lost count. She was watching a comedy show on TV.

"Gen, come and watch this with me. It’s hilarious," she called laughing out loud. Her voice startled me. I dropped the kitchen towel which I had been using to wipe the already dried dishes for the past thirty minutes. I walked towards the living room and sat on a sofa.

"Can you see that?" she asked as she pointed at the screen laughing again. I forced a burst of laughter as well. I wasn’t even looking or paying attention to the show. I had been practicing how to tell her about this in my head for about t
