Hazel's POV

"How are you enjoying the food, Lia?" I asked some minutes into the meal. But there was no response from her.

"Lia?"

"I can hear you, Hazel."

"Are you not eating?"

"I am."

"Why didn’t you reply when I asked if you were enjoying the food?"

"It’s nice enough."

"Hm."

She didn’t say anything more. A few more moments of silence, and I couldn’t take it again. I was used to talking to her, and if she went blank on me, I usually felt it and missed her immediately.

"What is wrong?"

"Why do you feel anything’s wrong?"

"You tell me."

"Tell you what?"

"Why are you hardly talking to me?"

"But I’m talking to you. What am I doing right now? Talking, that’s what."

"You know what I mean."

"You always want me to know what you mean. Sorry to disappoint you this time; I do not know what you mean."
