"Is this the food?"

Hailen had gone to bring the food she had said was poisoned. We were done with lunch, and she had cleared the plates and brought another one on a smaller tray in.

"Yes, it is."

"Let me see."

She put down the tray, and I sniffed it. Its aroma was completely normal; there was no indication that something else had been added.

"I can smell nothing."

"It was the same when I smelled it. There is no indication that poison was added to this food."

"An unsuspecting fellow would’ve eaten it without any doubt."
