Chapter 42. Keep It a Secret

**DAMIEN**

Keep calm, Damien, keep calm.

I tugged at my tie, trying to loosen it a bit from my neck. 

This weird burning sensation in my chest was unsettling and wrecking my mood.

A warm hand came to rest on my upper arm and I jerked back a bit.

“Are you okay, Damien?” Cheryl's voice washed over me and immediately lessened my tense muscles. “You look tensed and all.”

With a tight jaw, I rounded on her and pinned her with a look. “I thought I asked you to stay at home,” I gritted out.

She rolled her eyes at me—like really rolled her eyes at me! 

“But here we are.” She looked out the window and exhaled. “I'm not staying at home, Damien. I have work to do. I might be your girlfriend but I'm also your assistant and it's my duty to stand by your side and help you out.”

I scoffed. “It sure didn't seem like it back there,” I retorted sharply.
