Chapter 124. Peekaboo, I See You

Alan’s jaw clenched, and his hands balled into fists at his sides. “You think I don’t know what?” He hissed. “But saying it out loud does not help anyone, does it? Especially not now.” 

Robert crossed his arms, leaning back slightly as if to study the man more closely. “Why are you so tense? What aren’t you telling me?” 

Alan scoffed faintly, hesitating as his eyes darted toward the far side of the room—the side where I was hidden. My breath hitched. Did he know? Did he know that I was in here? If so, then why would he not shut Robert up as soon as the discussion of their affair started?

And if he knew, was he about to betray me, or was he trying to protect me from whatever darker plans Elder Robert might have?
