Chapter 169. It's the Truth Anyway

Darco stopped mid-step, his sharp gaze locking onto mine. For a moment, I thought I’d made a huge mistake by bringing this up. His intense eyes seemed to pierce through me, searching for soemthign deeper. 

Then he sighed, crossing his arms over his chest as if debating whether to answer or not. 

“You’re right,” He finally said, his tone even but laced with an edge. “You were disrespectful. Reckless, too. I could have made an example out of you last night, and no one would have questioned it.”

My breath hitched at his words, but he continued before I could continue. “But here’s the thing, Rue,” He said, taking a step closer. His towering figure made me feel small, but his voice was not raised. It was calm, and deliberate, and carried the weight of authority. “I was not all too right too, or respectful. I should have never hit you. I’m sorry for that.” 

I was completely taken aback. I did not expect that from him at all. It was the last thing on my mind
