Chapter 68
The air in Melissa’s apartment felt heavy as I stood there, waiting for her to arrive. Memories of our past rushed back, and I couldn’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and anxiety. The room was immaculate, thanks to the maid who had greeted me at the door.
“Is there anything that I can get for you?” A girl who looked like Melissa’s maid approached me. “I could get you a bottle of wine to drink and some food to eat just in case you are hungry.”
I thanked the maid and declined the offer, my mind too preoccupied with thoughts of Melissa’s imminent arrival. As I paced nervously, the soft hum of distant traffic outside seemed to magnify the silence within.
“Are you sure that you are okay, madam?” The maid pressed further, moving closer to where I was. “It is my duty to make sure that you are well taken care of.”
“I’m fine, really. And you can stop calling me madam,” I replied in a curt tone.
