As I anxiously awaited Vince’s return, the air inside our home became more suffocating with each passing minute. When the door creaked open, I rushed to meet him, only to freeze in horror at the sight of blood staining his hands.
“Vince, what happened?” My voice trembled with fear and confusion as I took in the crimson evidence.
He avoided my gaze, a shadow of guilt crossing his face. “I had to do it, Laura.”
“Do what? Why is there blood on your hands?” Panic surged through me, and my mind raced to comprehend the horrifying possibilities.
Vince sighed heavily, his shoulders slumping. “I confronted David. Things got out of hand.”
“What do you mean, ‘out of hand’? Vince, you need to tell me what happened!” My desperation fueled the urgency in my voice.
He hesitated, then finally spoke, “Laura, I had no choice. It was self-defense. He attacked me, and I had to protect myself.”
