Chapter 66
“Why is she here?” Ezra demanded, his face was pale as he watched Maggie stumble upon them.
Maggie watched that naïve version of herself come to the realization that it had been a trick. She watched as her trusting eyes clouded with regret and the bitter tears of betrayal a moment before Reggie grabbed her from behind and pulled her hands behind her.
At first, she couldn’t even react to the pain, the only thing she could say was, “Why?”
Her innocent brown eyes searched for Lance and she couldn’t hold her tears at the stony look on his face.
“Lance,” she wailed.
“Kill them,” came Ezekiel’s cold command.
Maggie watched the scene and for the first time, she saw it unfold differently. In her memories, Lance had been so cold that he rushed at her and tore her heart out of her chest with no regrets or heed for her tears at all. But now that she watched it as an outsider, she saw how his hand shook. The ancient dagger he held in his hand wobbled as fear
