Isla was napping when the buzzing of her phone stirred her awake. It was two hours into midday, the golden yellow sun spilling into the room. She kneaded her eyes and picked it up and glanced at the caller. It was Gerald calling. She clicked the answer button.

“Hello, Gerald.”

“I miss you,” he said.

She was irritated.

“I was in your house two days ago. We had sex.”

“I knew, but I still miss you. I wish I could see you every day.”

“I was taking a nap before you called.”

“Sorry for interrupting you. I wanted to tell you that I’m done digging into Brett Hallow, the doctor you asked me to look into.”

Her interest was piqued.

“And what did you find?”

“I’ll tell you if you come to my house.”

“Did you find anything or not?”

“I did, but I’ll only tell you if you come around.”
