Chapter 74. You Didn’t Come

Lucien’s office.

As the door clicked shut behind him, Mario adjusted his cuff and exhaled, a smirk still lingering from the successful meeting. The hallway ahead was quiet, except for the soft thud of approaching footsteps.

Charles was coming toward him, one hand buried in his pocket, the other gripping a slim folder Jake had requested. His gaze swept over Mario with a flicker of unsettling flutters in his stomach.

Mario stopped when he got Charles. “You didn’t come.” He disguised his question in a statement.

“I couldn’t make it, I was busy with Mr Vercetti.” Charles wanted to take three steps closer to him and end the little distance between them, but he restrained himself. He couldn’t risk Lucien stepping out of his office to see him too comfortable with his brother.
