Chapter 38
The girl felt protected, it was instantaneous, but James' voice hovered in her mind.
"Let's go." Sebastian called.
Emma looked him in the eyes and nodded, swallowing the lump in her throat.
All that filled her was the urge to cry and go back inside the house, say whatever she wanted to James' face, and then leave.
But because he knew he couldn't, he took Sebastian's hand and walked back to the car, watching him leave the house in a hurry, burning tires as he accelerated to the maximum and got them out of there in a hurry.
Silence took over the car, that would already be obvious to happen. But deep down, Sebastian felt guilty for not assuming the man would do that.
To James he was an asset, and seeing someone capable of making him feel the least bit of love was perhaps like having someone to turn him into a weakling
