Chapter 5. Chaos Erupts

Alpha Zayne Steele

Soon everyone was at their post waiting. We then spring into action, intel coming in as we go. My team quickly files out onto our assigned floor, moving with stealth and precision down the corridor.

One behind the other but strategically spread apart. We approached the first room on the right, and it’s empty. One person stayed behind to gather intel. This must be my lucky day, and I feel good about this.

In the second room on the left, one guard lounging lazily as what looks like a human, well, not anymore! As this human was healing on a bed, heavily chained.

This can only mean one thing: this faction has already experimented on this poor soul, and they are waiting to see whether or not the human will survive.

Lifting my silencer in one smooth move, I squeezed the trigger twice, putting them both out of their misery, not missing my target. Once turned, there was no going back for that poor human.

At a quick glance, we can tell there is nothing more in here, so we move on to the next room on the right, and to my horror, it’s an operating room with a full-on operation taking place…

Chaos erupts!

Unknown POV

[Hours earlier]

Damn it, who the f**k can be calling at this hour? I cursed under my breath, not wanting to disturb number ten next to me.

I smirk. Glancing at her, oh yes, she was a ten indeed. I lick my lips as I recall our earlier dalliances.

Picking up my phone, I see that it’s four fifty am. I swipe, seeing it’s Roger, and answer, “What!!”

“Sir, outpost number one hundred and forty-five has gone dark, and we lost contact about two hours ago.”

“F**k, f**k, f**k, it’s this f**king Alpha f**king mutt, I am sure of it, and he is really starting to piss me the f**k off,” I shouted.

Number ten stirred, “sorry babe, everything is alright. Go back to bed,” I cooed, patting her softly. Then I got up and went downstairs to my office.

“Get a team down there now and find out what happened. If anything is missing, I want to know everything and scrub that place top to bottom. Do NOT leave a trace of evidence that we were even there.”

“Yes, boss.”

I end the call. Damn it, this Alpha is becoming an expensive pain in my a$$. Thinking about better prospects, my mind wanders to lovely Aubrianne.

I will have to put my plans for her on hold temporarily. Nonetheless, I will have my men continue to follow the Hunter and proceed with the preparations for her arrival at my special lab.

Right now, I need to take care of this Alpha problem. What I have planned for her is extremely special and should not be rushed. I must ensure everything is in place to go perfectly without any problems or further delays.

I smile sinisterly…

Aubrianne Ivanov

[Three days earlier far, far away. Thursday, 22nd July 2021]

I stare at myself in the mirror and see that spark of excitement dancing in the depths of my big almond-shaped eyes. Light honey brown with a hint of grey is my natural shade, and they glow gleefully.

They soon move to my heart-shaped lips, then soft angled eyebrows, straight nose, and long brown hair kissed with streaks of highlights.

My gaze then drops to my chest, ensuring the girls are neatly tucked away in my barely there glittering two-piece lingerie number. After adjusting them, confirming that the cleavage is evident, I stare off in the mirror, lost in my thoughts at just how far I have come.

Currently, I was sitting in one of the high chairs in ‘Triple X’s’ dressing room. Triple X is one of the most popular strip clubs in the country, where I worked as a stripper, and sometimes I held on by the bar.

At present, I am ready to close this chapter and start anew. I just graduated with honors from Clifton Hill College and am about to start my internship at one of the most prestigious accounting firms in the world “Theodore Claude Thornton and Associates.”

Which, by the way, is on the other side of the world, so this is my last night and my last dance at this place. I have grown to love more than hate in the last two and a half years.

Letting out the air I did not know I held, as so many emotions course through me, anxiety over saying my goodbyes, excitement for where I am heading, a bit of gloom that I am leaving everyone behind as I embark on this journey, only because I will miss them but not that I wanted to stay.

Either way, I was ready for what was to come next.

These people I am leaving behind are considered family. To my knowledge, I have no family left. My mom died just before I started college five years ago. It was an accident caused by a drunk driver.

As I remembered, I sucked in a ragged breath and slowly exhaled, rubbing my temple gently as if trying to rub the memory away. I grimace just thinking about it, as that was the worst time of my life.

As for my dad, my mom never spoke of him. She did, however, say it was one night a long time ago. Every time I would push her for more information, she always danced around the subject and said things like, ‘You do not know what you are asking for,’ ‘You do not want that kind of life,’ or ‘It will never be safe for you if anyone found out,’ even, ‘it’s too dangerous which by the way just always left me more confused and with more questions.

But that never stopped me from thinking about him, whether he was out there looking for me, or did he even know I existed? Was my mother telling the truth?
