Valerie Will POV
“But it feels like we are drifting apart from each other.” Celeste’s voice cracked slightly through the phone. “I honestly thought that things had gotten better between us.”
I stared at the half-empty coffee on my desk, tracing my thumb around the rim. I couldn’t get any sleep the previous night because I was restless due to Benjamin’s threat.
“We haven’t seen each other in forever.” She continued. “It feels like you’re shutting me out.”
I let out a slow breath, rubbing my temple. “I’m sorry,” I murmured.
Celeste was the least of my problems at the moment. I knew she was just speaking out of guilt, even if she had no idea that I knew about what she did.
I could tell from her voice alone that guilt was eating her up. I knew I said I wasn’t going to confront her, but I couldn’t just act like everything was okay between us.
