Chapter 60
Valerie Will POV
My heart skipped a beat as I saw Jamal’s name flashing across my phone’s screen. I wasn’t scared. I was just surprised to see his name.
Maybe a little bit relieved.
I thought that I had lost him forever. I thought he wouldn’t contact me anymore.
I answered the call before it would end.
“Hey.”
“Hey.”
There was a brief silence, heavy with unspoken words.
We hadn’t talked in a while.
The tension between us was palpable.
I finally cleared my throat and asked. “Why did you call?”
I didn’t want to assume anything. Maybe he didn’t want to make things right. Maybe I had actually lost him forever and he was calling to end things officially.
He hesitated for a second. “I miss you. I just wanted to check up on you and see how you were doing.” He replied, his voice soft.
