“What do you mean by you’re not in New York?” I asked, trying hard to mask the anger in my voice. “What about lunch with my mother?”
Valerie scoffed bitterly. “I told you that I needed space. Your mother can see Liam if we ever have a reason to visit New York.” She replied nonchalantly. “Or she can always come to Texas.”
“If?” I asked, my voice laced with disbelief. “Are you forgetting that I’m also his father?”
“You tend to remind me a lot.” She continued, her tone casual like she couldn’t care less. “I haven’t forgotten that you are Liam’s father.”
I closed my eyes momentarily, letting out a frustrated sigh. “You didn’t think to tell me first before leaving?” I asked, rubbing my temple.
“I didn’t want you to stop me.” Her tone was dry like she was already over the conversation. “I’m actually busy right now, I’ll let you know when I’m free.”
