Patrick Banks POV

I could feel the color draining out of my face when Valerie told me the unborn child wasn’t mine. I knew she was just being dishonest, but I still felt bad because she didn’t want anything to have to do with me.

Did she hate me so much that she would try to pin my baby on another man? After the doctor told me about the pregnancy because she thought I was her husband, I did all the calculations and figured out that the baby belonged to me.

I was also devastated because I saw the baby as a second chance. After Jessica ran away with Noah, I felt this new baby would fill the void that Noah left.

But Valerie looked me in the eye and said the child wasn’t mine. The certainty in her voice broke me. I couldn’t wait for the paternity test to be done, so I’d eventually be certain that the baby was actually mine.
