Patrick was the happiest person when I finally admitted that the unborn baby belonged to him. But it didn’t mean I wanted to give him a second chance.

I know the situation was even more complicated, but he agreed to respect my boundaries. He just wanted to make up for the times he missed during Liam’s pregnancy journey.

He followed me to all my doctor’s appointments and made sure I was eating healthy food. He made me comfortable and provided me with everything I needed — even the ones I didn’t need.

We’d moved past arguing with each other, and I hated him less. But it still didn’t erase all the memories of his betrayal. At least, I could say we were cordial.

Our lives had been peaceful, and we were co-parenting Liam with ease. Everything felt great and for the first time in a long while, I didn’t feel like my life was miserable.

Patrick was meant to drive me to my doctor’s appointment, so I was filling up the bathtub with w
