“Momma, when do I get to go see Grandpa Desmond again?” Zara asked from her place on top of the kitchen counter.
“Next weekend, baby.” She turned to look at her briefly before continuing her task of unloading grocery bags. “Why? Do you miss him already?”
“Uh-huh, and he promised me something special.” She was swinging her legs over the counter.
“Have any idea what it is?” Gen asked, starting to put things on the shelf.
“Nope.”
“Momma?” From the sound of her voice, Gen could tell she had a question.
“Yes, baby. Do you have a question?”
“Yeah,” she giggled. “How do you know?”
“I know you, my love.” Gen walked over to her and rubbed their noses together. Zara held her face in both hands and rubbed their noses, and Gen's heart swelled.
“What do you have to ask, Zara?”
“How is Grandpa Desmond my grandpa?”
