Chapter 166. Weight of Grief
Isabella carried the pan of scrambled eggs to the dining table deep in her own thoughts. And she did not seem to care about the silence between her and Peggy in the kitchen. Isabella had always found solace in their morning chats, but now, the interaction was strained and with an effort put only from Peggy to get her to speak.
Last night had been another effort she had avoided, an effort from yet another person she knew cared about her but she had walled he heart from. She had lay in bed, her body exhausted but her mind refusing to quiet down. Alexander had walked into the room and she knew when he did but she had pretended to be asleep so she could avoid the conversation.
