Chapter 171. Wavering Plans
Not long after Bethany left his office, Maxwell found himself trying to focus on his work, his mind trying to pick up from where he was before Bethany walked in. He barely had time to settle back into his thoughts when the door opened again. His mother, Hilda, walked into the room.
Maxwell’s patience was wearing thin.
“Mother,” he called even before she was half way into the room. “What is it?”
He knew she was not here for a casual visit. She was always there for something. Hilda closed the door behind her, her eyes scanning the room before settling on her son.
“Maxwell darling, we need to talk,” she told him, walking fully into the room. It seemed the two were used to going without the courtesy of a greeting.
