Isabella remained seated on the bed, her thoughts travelling far. The soft light of the bedside lamp cast shadows on the walls, and the room was filled with a silence that seemed to heighten her inner worries. She glanced over at Alexander, who was still seated at the study table, his focus entirely on his work. His posture was rigid, it was nothing like the relaxed demeanor he once had when they were together.

Isabella almost panicked at the thought of that. Were they not still together? Of course they were, Alex was still her husband and she was still his wife.
