Chapter 181. Heavy Thoughts

Isabella sat on the bed, staring into space. The room was quite as usual and it held the of the emotional distance that had grown between her and Alexander. She had been lost in her thoughts, when Alexander entered the room and carried her phone from the cupboard.

“Isabella,” he called as he handed her the device. “Your phone has been ringing. Your father is on the line.”

She looked up startled. She had not even realized her phone was ringing. Isabella took the phone from him and she pressed it to her ear.

“Hi, Dad.” She said into the phone trying to sound as fine and cheerful as possible.

“Isabella,” Ryder’s voice came through, warm and concerned. “How are you doing, my dear?”

“I am doing just fine dad. How about you?”
