Jade gave her a sidelong glance. “I don’t hate you, despite how cruel you are. You will realize one day that you need my presence in your life.” She returned her attention to her meal and remained silent. 

Selena inhaled while concentrating on her empty plate. As she took her seat, she looked at her mother. Isabel handed her a plate of rice. Selena took it and began to eat. She had not eaten lunch or dinner and had awoken hungry. 

Isabel kept staring at her, and Selena could feel her attention on her. She raised her head at her mother. “Ask what is on your mind,” she said, before returning her attention to her meal. 

“Are you alright?”

Selena fixed her gaze on her. “Why?”

“You were soaked when you got home yesterday, are you okay?”

“I’m alright, mom.”
