Megan's POV

My mind raced as I confronted my mother about my father's whereabouts.

"What do you mean he's still with the Syndicate?" I demanded, my voice shaking with anger and fear.

"He...he never left Megan. He's still involved with them." My mother hesitated, clearly unsure of how much to reveal.

I felt like I had been punched in the gut. I had hoped that my father had left the Syndicate, that he was safe and out of harm's way. But now, it seemed like he was more entrenched than ever.

"What does that even mean?" I pressed on, her eyes narrowing.

"Is he still working for them? Is he still...still doing whatever it is they do?" I asked her.

Her mother sighed; her eyes cast downward.

"I don't know all the details, Megan. But I do know that he's still involved. And I know that it's dangerous." Her mother sighed; her eyes cast downward.

Determined to get to the bottom of things, I started her my own investigation.
