Chapter 146. Strained Bonds

"Veronica," I exclaim when my sister approaches us. "Thank God, you're okay!"

But my sister doesn't look happy at all. As soon as Lexcis notices her unrelenting approach, he steps in front of me.

"I fucking hate you!" She yells at me. I'm shocked, but that's not even close to how I feel. Lexcis is vigilant, making sure she doesn't touch me in her rage.

"Veronica, what happened?" I ask as I move him aside to talk to her.

"You are to blame. All of it! Because of you, she got shot!"

"Who did?"

"Sorana!" She sobs.

"Calm down, Veronica. After work, talk to her."

My sister is just getting started. I feel awful, not because of what she's saying, but because I can't focus on a word she says. Since my time in prison, my head hasn't stopped hurting, not even for a second.
