Chapter 233. Now or Ever
Chantel Raven
"Does it hurt?" Damon asked.
"What do you think, genius?" I roll my eyes.
"I murdered him for doing it," he said, his voice cold and detached.
"You are also the one who issued the order. I've heard of a proverb. It says something like, 'If you don't have the guts to carry out your own order, you shouldn't—'" I pause, noticing Damon's intense glare.
I am quiet as he yanks me dangerously near to his face. I can feel his uneven breath on my face, which frightens me even more.
"I would quit if I were you," he warns, his eyes narrowing.
I will not. Why should I?
"Why?" My voice is barely a whisper. "Will you toss me out?"
He leans closer, "I might try something different." After that, he chooses to kiss my cheek and hold me close. He looks into my eyes, as if he expects to discover some terrible secrets.
