"I'm not sure when I'll be afraid of being touched again, but while things are going well, I'm going to take advantage of it," I say, cautiously stepping closer to Laurence.

"Please don't do something like that again," he warns with a smirk, "Or I'll have to shackle you to Lexcis again." When he says this, I automatically draw back, a playful glint in his eyes.

“Was that a joke? Did you just- I'm amazed." I wipe away my tears, and he notices but doesn't say anything. Laurence rolls his eyes and says, "I can be rather hilarious, you know," giving me a small wink.

"I see." I respond with a half-smile, feeling a bit lighter.

Before I can finish, he speaks out again. "How are you? Truly?" I know I've been asked this question before, but this time seems different. I'm not doing well. I try to act as if everything is fine, but it is not.
