Wetting her lips, Elizabeth put the earring on her ear and arranged herself beside Lord Henry. She drank the water slowly. Faking a bored look, she then said nothing but was suddenly surprised when a tremendous bang from somewhere resounded loudly enough to bring an unexpected ringing to her ears.

Commander Jefferson panicked and ordered his men.

Elizabeth’s supernatural hearing was sensitive to those warriors, and the alchemists and even the fairies at her father's banquet were all trying to muffle the noise in their ears; it was an enchanting noise that made them momentarily dizzy, though some of the powerless guests were unaffected somehow.
