Kieran’s POV

The room was quiet, my right hand was playing with her hair as I got lost in my own thoughts . She trembled faintly in my arms, her body curled into me as if she was afraid I would disappear if she let go.

I tightened my hold on her, running my hand slowly up and down her arm. She smelled faintly of lilies and smoke. My chest constricted at the thought of what could have happened if I had arrived a second too late.

“You’re safe now,” I murmured into her hair, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.
