Chapter 241
Author’s POV
To come up with the decision was not easy at all. It tore through every person in that room until there was nothing left to argue with. By the time Kieran finally stood, the candles had burned very low.
No one spoke as he looked around the room. At his people. At the faces that had followed him into war and at the ones he might now be sending to their deaths.
His jaw tightened, the muscle ticking as if he was holding something back.
“This mission…” he began, then paused, his voice rougher than usual. He straightened slightly, forcing strength into it. “This mission will move forward.”
Kieran’s gaze shifted, landing on Lucas first. “You’ll lead it.”
Lucas didn’t move much, but his shoulders squared just a fraction, accepting it without words.
“Damian,” Kieran continued. Damian leaned back slightly where he stood, arms crossed, his expression unreadable but his eyes sharpened, something restless flickering beneath them.
